Handheld Radios
IMPORTANT - SBA uses Motorola Handheld Radios to provide immediate communications. This is for everyday coordination as well as Emergency Situations. Therefore, it is critical that ALL staff knows how to correctly use these radios.
ALL RADIOS SHOULD HAVE A BLINKING ORANGE LIGHT! - This is normal
WHO HAS HANDHELD RADIOS?
All Administrators
All SROs (School Resource Officers)
ANY and ALL Teachers going outside the building
PS Teachers - pick them up at the Preschool Receptionist Desk
ES Teachers - have radios in their rooms
MS and HS Teachers - pick them up at the US Receptionist OR the SC Receptionist Desks
How to use your Handheld Radio - What to Say/Give
Press the side radio button for 1 second THEN speak clearly
High Pitched Tone - You are broadcasting
Low Pitched Tone - You are NOT broadcasting
Give name, location & problem (use plain language)
Medical Example: "This is John Smith, I need a nurse, I have a student who fell on the playground and is bleeding"
Stranger Example: "This is Jane Smith, there is a strange man with a backpack near the Elementary playground"
Care for your radio
Charge your radio EACH night. The charging base light should be RED until fully charged which it will then be GREEN.

1 = Teachers
2 = Administration/SROs
3 = SBC/Church Maintenance
4 = Preschool/EBNO
5 = Coming Soon
6 = Coming Soon
7 = Radio to Radio #1
8 = Radio to Radio #2
9 = Radio to Radio #3
10 = Radio to Radio #4
16 = NOAA Weather Channel
